Brian Porter

Brian joined The Protectors Group as a Senior Partner in 1990. Having worked as a Senior Account Executive for 17 years with a major group and pension insurance company, and 8 years as a Regional Consultant with a top-tier financial corporation, he brought a wealth of expertise to the team.

Brian’s extensive large-case experience has been instrumental in developing aggressive initiatives in the areas of cost containment, flex benefits and innovative market approaches.

Brian and his family live in Peterborough and are actively involved in the community, contributing to a number of local charitable causes, including the hospital foundation.

R. Mark Porter, BBA
Vice-President, Group Operations

Mark Porter

Before joining The Protectors Group in 2003, Mark worked for a number of years in the Greater Toronto Area for a major insurance company. During this time he developed a working knowledge of trends in group insurance underwriting, plan design, cost containment initiatives and next generation system capabilities.

In 2000, Mark graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Honours with Co-Operative Option, including an emphasis in Sales and Marketing.

A strong analytical background, coupled with a comprehensive knowledge of the benefits industry has allowed Mark to bring a fresh perspective to his clients.

Kimberly Jones
Manager, Client Services

Kimberly Jones

Kimberly began her employment with The Protectors Group in 1999 as a part-time employee. After graduating from Sir Sandford Fleming College with honours in Executive Office Administration, she was brought on full-time in January 2000.

Over the past ten years, Kimberly has been responsible for managing our small group plans. She’s also responsible for The Protectors Group “Syndicated Small Group” product as well as day-to-day claims and service issues for both employees and administrators. Kimberly is fully Life Licensed and is currently working on her Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation.

Kimberly’s years of experience and working knowledge of the employee benefit industry make her a great asset to the Group Benefits Department.

Dana Ardiel
Client Service Specialist

Dana Ardiel

Prior to joining The Protectors Group in 2008, Dana graduated from Sir Sanford Fleming College in 1990 from the Recreation Leadership Program. Following that she and her husband were the successful owners of a Retirement Living and RV Resort just outside of Peterborough. Upon selling the Resort she worked as a Customer Service Representative at AmeriCredit.

Dana’s many years of successful customer relations, organizational skills and ability to learn quickly has made her a valuable addition to the Group Benefits Department.

Barbara Shepard
Office Administrator

Barbra Shepard

Barb joined The Protectors Group in 1993, initially as a Service Representative with Founding Partner, Pat Casey. Due to her strong, 29-year customer service background, Barb was invited to join the Group Operations as a Customer Account Representative in 1996. Her client service acumen and knowledge of union contracts and negotiations has become a primary asset.

As a long-time resident of Peterborough, Barb and her family are active in community and social issues.
